Our department is also proud to have two very special programs that provide invaluable assistance to the citizens of our community.
One is our Cops for Kids program and the other is our Child Passenger Safety program. Please click on the program names or the links on the left side of this page for additional information on these two great programs.
The National Defense Authorization Act authorizes the Secretary of Defense to transfer excess Department of Defense (DoD) personal property to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies with special emphasis given to counter-drug and counter-terrorism. The 1033 program (formerly the 1208 program) allows law enforcement agencies to receive DOD excess property.
By participating in this program, the Lewisburg Police Department is eligible to receive surplus equipment from the DoD. As of January, 2013, our department has received over 1.3 million dollars in equipment from this program. The equipment we have received includes vehicles like the HUMVEE pictured, an International Stake Truck, a Freightliner Tractor Truck and trailer, and a Mobile Command Trailer; specialized equipment for our emergency response team including rifles, laser and aim point sights; and various other items including a large format HP Plotter, multimedia projectors, furniture, tools and tool cabinets, tents, generators along with many other items.
